The Pequin Chilli, also known as Pequin Pepper or Chile Pequin, hails from Mexico and is celebrated for its intense heat—nearly 10 times hotter than a jalapeño. Though small in size, this chilli delivers a powerful kick. Its tiny pods ripen from green to a vibrant red or red-orange, and when dried, they take on a deep brownish-red hue. Highly prized in Mexican cuisine, the Pequin adds bold heat and depth of flavour to a variety of dishes.
